A blog about drinks, deception, antiques and love

Well ...

It occurred to me that I could write about my interests and explain them at the same time. Then I thought of something that explains it all, and the photo here is a good example. This is a painting that my mother, Ruth, bought when we lived in England in the '50s and '60s. As was her practice, she took her time in breaking the news of any antiques purchase to my father, Dick. When she thought the time was right, she plied him with a few stiff CC's and soda, hence the blog title. Her timing was always perfect. There were some rules, of course. Never when he was scheduled to fly and never when he was "On Alert" -- he was an Air Force fighter pilot. And if there was more deception other than having bought something great without sharing the news right away, e.g., the fact that he may have been sleeping over a large chandelier for six months without knowing it, she wouldn't tell him the other part until another cocktail hour ...

This really worked for them ...
